WHAT IS... ACUPRESSURE ?
An individual acupressure session usually lasts one hour and
does not require removing your clothes. During that time, an acupressurist
will use a variety of techniques covering most of the body. The amount of
pressure varies from a gentle touch to firm, deep massage. The contact
should feel balanced somewhere between pain and pleasure. If there is any
pain involved, it should hurt "good". Sometimes after a session, there may
be tenderness in muscles and joints, or an increase in symptoms. This is
generally due to the release of toxins and should subside. It is suggested
that you rest completely after receiving a session in order to experience
the full benefits of acupressure.
Acupressure massage is a safe and effective way to reduce such common
stress-related disorders as headaches, ulcers, cramps and insomnia and at
the same time stimulate the body's natural self-curative abilities. The
fundamental distinction between acupressure and acupuncture lies in the
use of needles used in acupuncture and the gentle but firm pressure of
hands (and feet, in some techniques) used in acupressure. Using the power
and sensitivity of the human hand, acupressure is especially effective in
the relief of tension-related ailments, in self-treatment, and in
preventive health care. |
